CBS has renewed The Big Bang Theory for three more seasons, the network announced Wednesday.
The deal will take the hit comedy — which stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar — through the 2013-14 season.
"It doesn't take a theoretical physicist to see why this show is a BIG part of our comedy future," Nina Tassler, CBS Entertainment president, said in a statement. "From ratings to critical acclaim to pop culture buzz, it's struck a chord on all levels. The creative genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and the on-camera talents of an amazing young ensemble have created a comedy that will entertain viewers for a long time. We're proud to partner with Warner Bros. on another highly successful, long-running comedy."
In its fourth season, Big Bang successfully helped CBS launch a new Thursday night comedy block this season when it moved from Mondays to Thursdays at 8. It has averaged 13.89 million viewers and a 4.7 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic, making it Thursday's top comedy in both categories.
The show is up for two Golden Globes this weekend for best comedy series and comedy lead actor for Parsons. Parsons won a comedy lead actor Emmy in August.
