Zap2it was invited to Ken Warwick (executive producer, "American Idol") and Nigel Lythgoe's (producer "American Idol," producer and judge, "So You Think You Can Dance") annual Wine Festival Dinner in Paso Robles, which featured several wines from their own vineyard, Villa San-Juliette.
Amidst all the wonderful food and drink, we were able to catch up with Nigel on the upcoming season of "SYTYCD." The format is changing drastically for Season 7, with only 10 dancers coming out of Las Vegas and the judges actually going to the contestants' homes to tell them whether they have advanced.
"Mary Murphy has done a 'yes' and a 'no' so far," Nigel tells us. "The 'nos' are so hard, but luckily the contestants are at home, they're with their families when it happens."
"I'm only doing 'yeses,' I'm lucky," Nigel laughs. "I've done one so far, that person was so obviously a 'yes' that I couldn't even pretend they were a 'no.'"
Nigel then asked us what we thought of the changes. We told him we were excited to see the all-stars come back and that you at least have to try, even if it doesn't work.
"Exactly, you have to try!" Nigel agrees. "I was getting bored. It sounds good in theory, so hopefully it works. Before, if you had two people who couldn't do hip-hop, you had a terrible routine. Now at least you have one good person. We're very excited about the all-stars."
Finally, we had to leave Nigel so that he could give the pre-dinner welcome speech, which he ended with, "At the end of the evening, I'm sure we'll all say, '[gibberish],' after we've enjoyed the Villa San-Juliette Jack Daniels and the Villa San-Juliette tequila shots later."
The two-hour "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 7 premiere airs Thursday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
