"Criminal Minds" will become more of a boys' club next season.
The CBS show is shedding one cast member and possibly reducing the role of another. Both of them happen to be women. A.J. Cook is being let go, and Paget Brewster may not appear in every episode next season, although she'll still be a cast regular.
The moves are intended to "refresh a veteran drama series," a source close to the show tells Deadline.com. "Criminal Minds" may add a new female character later on next season to fill Cook's shoes.
- While "Criminal Minds" is reshuffling its cast, NBC's new series "Undercovers" is also doing some tinkering.
Mekia Cox has joined the J.J. Abrams show as Gugu Mbatha-Raw's sister, who's unaware of her and her husband's (Boris Kodjoe) spy exploits. She replaces Jessica Parker Kennedy, who played the part in the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cox had a recurring part on "90210" last season as Dixon's (Tristan Wilds) older girlfriend and has also guested on "Bones" and "One Tree Hill."
- "Grey's Anatomy" star Chyler Leigh and Patricia Wettig of "Brothers & Sisters" have signed on to a Lifetime movie that sets a murder mystery inside a polygamous religious group.
It's called "The 19th Wife" and is based on a novel by David Ebershoff. Wettig plays the title character, a woman accused of killing her husband. Leigh's character, another wife in the sect, asks Wettig's excommunicated son ("The Good Wife's" Matt Czuchry) for help in clearing her name.
The movie is scheduled to premiere in the fall.
