In this case, motherhood has not been kind to Nicole Richie.
E! News has learned the former Simple Life star had her DUI probation extended today by an additional year after failing to attend alcohol education classes because she was too busy tending to her newborn baby boy, Sparrow and his two-year-old big sis, Harlow.
Richie, 28, will have until March 2011 to take the requisite courses under supervision of the court before she's officially in the clear.
The actress and rocker-hubby Joel Madden welcomes their first child, Harlow, in January, 2008 and Sparrow last September.
The judge in the case however told Richie's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, that should the tube personality fulfill her obligation before that, he'd do away with her probation.
Richie got into this scrape in Dec. 2006 when she was busted for a DUI by California Highway Patrol after driving the wrong way on a Burbank freeway and flunking a field sobriety test. She was charged with driving under the influence and sentenced to four days in the clink only to serve a little more than an hour before authorities released her due to overcrowding at the jail.
