"Louie" will have to endure another year's worth of everyday humiliations.
FX president and general manager John Landgraf announced Tuesday (Aug. 3) that the cable channel has picked up a second season of the series. It will run for 13 episodes and is slated to run in the summer of 2011.
"Louis [C.K.] has made a truly original series -- a comedy unlike anything on television, but perfect for his unique voice," Landgraf says.
First-run episodes of the show, which airs at 11 p.m. ET Tuesdays, have averaged about a million viewers; multiple airings and DVR use push that figure to 2.5 million.
- "Damages" is done airing on FX, but the network will still have a hand in its production when it moves to DirecTV.
The show suffered a ratings slide this year that made it untenable for FX, but Landgraf says DirecTV "was willing to underwrite it to a very substantial amount financially that enabled it to move forward." If DirecTV was going to pony up that kind of money, though, it wanted the exclusive rights to "Damages."
FX will still be involved in the show, however. The network's producing arm, FX Productions, has co-produced the series with Sony all along and will continue to be when the show migrates to DirecTV next year.
- "Reno 911" creators/stars Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon are bringing their brand of comedy to FX -- and to space.
They're co-creating and starring in "Alabama," a pilot set a thousand years in the future aboard a U.N. peacekeeping spaceship called the USS Alabama. As FX describes it, the show will follow the crew as it "visits hostile planets, meets alien life-forms and tries to have sex with each other in their tiny, metal bunk beds."
Production on the pilot is scheduled for September.
