Then there's the latest Emmy ad for "Glee," which takes the novel approach of asking people not to vote for the show.
The ad, which ran in The Hollywood Reporter this week, features Sue Sylvester begging TV academy members not to give "Glee" the Emmy for best comedy. "They must not win a single statue," McKinley High's imperious cheerleading coach says.
Her reasoning? "Will Schuester's head is big enough already. Actually, it's mostly hair. He's like a Shih Tzu. If you threw him in a pool, he'd look all weird and scrawny like a wet rat. Except a wet rat is less likely to just start rapping for no reason."
It's a pretty clever anti-ad, actually, using Jane Lynch -- the odds-on favorite to win outstanding supporting actress in a comedy -- in character to point out one of the show's strongest points. We'll find out if Sue's plea works over the next couple of weeks: Emmy ballots are due Tuesday (Aug. 17), the Creative Arts awards are Saturday, Aug. 21, and the Primetime Emmys are Aug. 29.
