The Oprah Winfrey Network just got a whole lot more Oprah -- and money.
Partial OWN parent company Discovery Communications reveals that it's added another $89 million to its initial $100 million in financing for the upcoming network. And they're not just doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. All of the extra cash comes in exchange for more screen time from Winfrey herself.
To be more precise, Variety reports the money hinges on Oprah increasing her "on-air commitment to OWN, including hosting or starring in a show to air on OWN." Previously, Oprah was said to be staying behind the scenes except for the occasional special or miniseries.
Variety also reveals that much of the additional funding will go straight to "Oprah's Next Chapter," a weekly series that will see the talk show host interviewing notable people at iconic locations around the globe.
News out of the OWN camp should be coming on a fairly regular basis between now its January 1, 2010, launch -- and it can't all be good. Most recently, the cable channel was slapped with a workplace discrimination lawsuit.
