Back in the 1920s, most people dressed immaculately. Today, most people dress like casual slobs.
So what happened to society, Steve Buscemi?
"I think because it's work, it's a lot of work to look that good," said Buscemi, who has the lead role in Boardwalk Empire. The new TV series, which is co-executive-produced by Martin Scorsese and debuts Sunday, Sept. 19 on HBO Canada, is set in the prohibition era of the 1920s.
"People just looked great (in the '20s), even working-class people," Buscemi said.
"People just look so different in those suits. And it's a shame we haven't kept that up."
Not that Buscemi wants to keep his wardrobe from Boardwalk Empire, though.
"I wouldn't want to, because I need help getting dressed," he said.
"Literally, there's a guy who has to do the attachable collar, and do the tie right. It's a little bit of a process. I probably could do it myself, but it would take me three times as long."
