{alltv} Penn Badgley & Blake Lively Have Dueling Premieres in Toronto

Plenty of star couples have turned up at the Toronto International Film Festival hand in hand – but for Penn Badgley and Blake Lively, a date night was mission: impossible.

Badgley walked the carpet solo for the premiere of his new comedy Easy A on Saturday at the same time as Lively screened her movie, The Town. "Unfortunately, her premiere is, like, right now," Badgley, 23, told PEOPLE. "Otherwise, we would be at each other's."

Lively stars as a troubled single mom in the crime thriller, directed by Ben Affleck and costarring Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall. "It was a pretty rough experience," says Lively, also 23. "Every scene required so much emotion and pain."

Adds Badgley: "I am [proud of her], absolutely. And I'm not worried about her around Jon!"

On the Town

Meanwhile, Hamm and his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt were able to spend the night together – alongside another couple: Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner. The foursome attended the The Town premiere the night after a private dinner for the cast and crew at Sotto Sotto restaurant.

While Affleck and Garner signed autographs, Westfeldt gushed about her romantic guy: "He says 'I love you' every second," she says. "After 12 years in, he's still affectionate and I approve."

Where's Shia?

Carey Mulligan may have walked the red carpet solo at the premiere of her drama Never Let Me Go on Saturday, but that's because her boyfriend (and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps costar) Shia LaBeouf was busy working. Still, she had sweet words for him. "He's a lovely guy," says Mulligan.

And as a costar? "He's brilliant ... I'd always wanted to work with him since I saw him in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and I thought he was just such an incredible actor," she says.

• Hilary Swank, who stars in the real-life legal drama Conviction, and her agent boyfriend John Campisi dropped in at private dinners for both Waiting for Superman and Jack Goes Boating at the Windsor Arms Hotel. Swank and pal Amy Ryan chatted up a storm at the hotel's Prime steakhousel.

• Josh Lucas, who stars as a teacher who gets involved with a flirty teenager in the drama Daydream Nation, nominated Zach Galifianakis as his dream wingman, suspecting he'd be "hilariously, unpredictably dangerous and a lot of fun to get in trouble with," says Lucas, who hit parties at the Grey Goose Soho House popup club and the Hazelton Hotel, where Javier Bardem also celebrated the premiere of his film Biutiful.

• Never Let Me Go's Andrew Garfield, who was recently cast as the next Spider-Man, says he's still "getting my head around" the dream superhero role. "It's meant so much to me since I was 4-years-old and put on my first Halloween costume," he says. Plus, "I'm very skinny and can relate to that," he says.

• Father-son directors Ivan and Jason Reitman turned out for Sunday's official opening of the Bell Lightbox, an ultra-modern new downtown center for the festival – as a block party celebrated the new venue, soon to host public screenings and exhibitions.
