After a season of challenges all over Washington, an alleged pea-puree theft and a trip to Singapore, Top Chef named its Season 7 winner following a four-course, head-to-head competition — including the dreaded dessert course.
Top Chef's Kelly: I'm still not sure why I went home
The final three cheftestants are surprised to learn that they will be paired with past Top Chef winners Michael Voltaggio, Hung Huynh, and Ilan Hall. Angelo is thrilled to get Hung because of their similar styles, and Kevin is happy to work with old pal Michael. Ed starts out pretty ambivalent about Ilan, and has more than a few problems with him by the end.
Things take yet another turn when Angelo comes down with a debilitating stomach bug that prevents him from leaving the house to buy ingredients and prep the meal on the first day. Luckily, his partner, that speed-demon Hung, manages to pull the workload for the both of them with Angelo's direction by cell phone. The next day, Angelo manages to rally, and the three chefs take to the kitchen to prepare their last supper.
Here's how meals went down:
Angelo
First Course: Pickled royale mushrooms and pork belly with fresh noodles
Second Course: Asian-style bouillabaisse with cuttlefish
Third Course: Sautéed duck breast and foie gras with marshmallow
Fourth Course: Shaved ice and coconut-vanilla cream
Kevin
First Course: Eggplant, zucchini and pepper terrine
Second Course: Pan seared rouget with cuttlefish "noodles," pork belly and slipper lobster
Third Course: Roasted duck breast with duck dumpling and caramelized bok choy
Fourth Course: Frozen "Singapore Sling" with tropical fruits
Ed
First Course: Chilled summer corn velouté with fried black cockles
Second Course: Stuffed rouget, glazed slipper lobster and cuttlefish
Third Course: Roasted duck break and braised stuffed duck neck with baby spinach
Fourth Course: Sticky toffee pudding
The judges deliberated over the pros and cons of all the dishes until the ultimate decision is made.
And the winner of Top Chef: D.C. and the $125,000 prize is ... Kevin.
Are you happy with the winner?
