ABC is taking another crack at bringing Romeo & Juliet to the small screen.
An adaptation of William Shakespeare's story of two star-crossed lovers torn apart by feuding families is being developed by the network, an ABC rep says.
The pilot will be penned by Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center), while Todd Garner, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are attached to executive-produce. Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to direct the pilot.
Film adaptations of the classic Shakespearean tale have been more numerous and more successful than TV.
Previous tries just by ABC included this year's Matadors and last season's Empire State, both of which included dueling families brought together by young love.
