LOS ANGELES - Fox News' viewership spiked to a record 7.1 million viewers as the final Chilean miner was rescued Wednesday night.
That's the cable news network's best viewership all year, and its biggest audience since Election Night in 2008.
By comparison, CNN drew 2.7 million viewers and MSNBC averaged 1.1 million (but did not carry the final miner rescue).
In primetime, Fox News was still tops, averaging 4.9 million viewers. CNN had 2.4 million viewers, and MSNBC drew 920,000.
The numbers are a setback for CNN, which used to surge past top-rated Fox News during major breaking news events.
