In honor of his 51st birthday on Thursday, Simon Cowell was treated to a song – by a trio of little people.
Fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole was the mastermind behind the serenade, reports The Sun, and the men donned gray T-shirts with the words "Happy Birthday, Love Cheryl" printed across the chest.
"Cheryl said she thought it would [be] funny for us to annoy him," said Phil Holden, one of the performers hired by Cole. The dwarf actors, Holden and pals Ray Griffiths and Darren Horan, performed the musical number, complete with a violin, drum and accordion, to the classic "Happy Birthday" tune as he arrived for a studio rehearsal in London.
And how did Cowell, known for his tough criticism when he was a judge on American Idol, rate the performance?
"He thought it was the best present he'd ever had," Holden, who stands at 4'6", said. "But it backfired a bit because after we finished he said, 'Right then, lads, you're spending the day with me.' "
His other present: The birthday boy splurged on a new black Ferrari to mark the milestone.
