Like every other hockey player, Theo Fleury has probably fallen a million times.
But he probably never knew how painful (and not in the physical sense) it could be to lose his balance until he did it on figure skates — and it cost him his spot on Battle of the Blades.
Fleury and partner Jamie Sale were eliminated from the CBC reality skate-off on Monday night. After landing in the Bottom 2 with Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner, the pair repeated their Saturday Night Live-themed routine from Sunday's episode. All was going groovy until Fleury lost his footing and plunged forward. He quickly recovered from the slip-up, but drove the nail into the coffin by fumbling a lift and falling just short of sending Sale headfirst into the ice. Ouch.
This left judges Sandra Bezic, Jeremy Roenick and guest Toller Cranston with no choice but to drop Fleury and Sale and vote to save Brasseur and Warriner — even though they all admitted they were leaning towards the former pair and that Fleury's technical snafus are what ended his game.
"Yeah, OK, good, we get it," said a sombre Fleury, who I'm shocked even fell into the Bottom 2 in the first place.
To add insult to injury, Brasseur and Warriner's To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! themed routine this week featured Warriner in drag — and looking rather good in it, too. Double ouch.
