TV vet Bob Newhart has booked a guest-starring role on NCIS, a rep for the show confirms to TVGuide.com.
Newhart, 81, will play Dr. Walter Magnus, an eccentric-but-charming medical examiner who comes out of retirement to help the NCIS team, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news. He'll work closely with the team's resident ME Ducky (David McCallum).
Newhart, best known for his sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, has also appeared in such films as Catch-22 and Elf. He most recently co-starred with Noah Wyle and Jane Curtin in The Librarian TV movies on TNT, and as Morty Flickman on ABC's Desperate Housewives.
NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS. Newhart's episode is scheduled to air in January.
