For the month of October, Jon Stewart was the king of late night.
Bolstered by the mid-term election, his sit-down with President Barack Obama and the lead-up to the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, Comedy Central's The Daily Show averaged more viewers among adults 18 to 49 than broadcast rivals The Late Show and The Tonight Show. It's the first time in nearly a decade since Jay Leno or David Letterman have ceded the top spot in the demographic.
The Daily Show scored a 1.0 rating (1.3 million viewers) among viewers 18 to 49, edging nearest competitors Leno and Letterman, who both drew a 0.9 rating and 1.2 million viewers each.
In related news, Letterman topped Leno in the ratings for the first time since his rival returned to late night in March. During the last week of October, Letterman averaged 3.8 million viewers to Leno's 3.6 million.
