•Tonight. Here's a risky combination: ABC is teaming the classic cartoon version of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas(ABC, 8 ET/PT) with Jim Carrey's not-so-classic live-action version (8:30 ET/PT). Unless you want an object lesson in how bigger is not always better, stick with the original.
•Friday. In the spirit of the holiday, I will leave those of you who love It's a Wonderful Life(NBC, 8 ET/PT) to watch it in peace. Those who don't can join me over on TCM for 1940's Remember the Night(midnight ET/9 PT) starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck.
•Saturday. You have 24 hours to watch the comedy classic A Christmas Story(TBS, all day), starting Christmas Eve at 8. Just promise that you won't actually watch all day. It's Christmas; even if you don't believe in the holiday, turn off the TV and hug a loved one.
•Sunday. No doubt you've heard the criticisms of The Sound of Music(ABC, 7 ET/PT). Too long. Too sugary. It makes a mash of the historical record. Despite all that, if you haven't watched in a while, what may surprise you is how well sung it is, how beautifully produced it is, and how well it holds up.
