Katie Cazorla may run The Painted Nail, a nail salon that caters to the likes of Teri Hatcher and Hilary Duff, but A-listers expecting special treatment should look elsewhere.
"It doesn't matter if you're a celebrity. If you have jacked-up nails, I'm gonna tell you," Cazorla said Wednesday at the Televisions Critics Association's winter preview session. Viewers may soon get to see that honesty in action when TV Guide Network premieres its new reality series, The Nail Files.
Debuting this summer, Nail Files will look at the secrets behind Cazorla's success (a party room upstairs and a bar in the salon), her famous clients (watch for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Kim Richards), and how she balances her busy work life and her relationship to Walter Afanasioff, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer.
Reality TV has covered practically every facet of Los Angeles' expansive beauty industry, from Jonathan Antin's Beverly Hills hair salon in Bravo's Blow Out to the High Voltage Tattoo parlor on TLC's LA Ink. Carloza says it's time nail salons had their time in the spotlight. They're "a black eye and I want to change that," Cazorla said. "Why can't it be fabulous like the hair salons?" Just don't expect petty infighting between co-workers, the mark of so many other small-business reality shows. "I don't want to be just a salon with bitchy-ass drama. I don't even want to watch that," Cazorla said.
Executive producer Sally Ann Salsano (Jersey Shore) says Cazorla herself should also be a huge draw. "Katie is who she is and she won't apologize for it later," she said. "She thrives in the world of crazy."
Added Afanasioff: "She lights up the whole room. .... Everyone I know is madly in love with her." "I should have been a used car salesman," Cazorla joked.
