Who needs a television? Nickelodeon series "SpongeBob SquarePants" is targeting its young audience by embracing the digital age, debuting each episode of its new five-part series, "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legends of Bikini Bottom" on Facebook one day before it airs on television.
The first episode, "Trenchbillies" premiered on the SpongeBob Facebook page -- where more than 16 million "fans" gather to discuss the show -- on Thursday night. Friday it airs on Nickelodeon. Each episode will be available on Facebook for two weeks.
The episodes features guest stars Amy Sedaris and Gennifer Goodwin as the voices of Ma Angler and the Mermaid, respectively. The comedic series explores the underwater legend theme as SpongeBob and his starfish friend Patrick are captured and forced to pass a series of tests to win their freedom.
The other episodes are called "Sponge-Cano," "The Main Drain," "The Monster Who Came to Bikini Bottom," and "The Bikini Bottom Triangle."
What'd you think of "Trenchbillies," the premiere? Did you catch it on Facebook or on TV first?
