TNT has extended the seventh, and purported final, season of The Closer by six episodes, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Ten episodes will air this summer, followed by five in the winter and the final six in summer 2012.
The order comes just days after a report that TNT is looking to keep the series going, despite Kyra Sedgwick's impending departure. The six additional episodes will be the last for Sedgwick's Brenda Leigh Johnson and will also likely serve as a platform to introduce a new central character for a spin-off.
The spin-off is tentatively titled Major Crimes, and would see the show evolve into a more gritty drama, according to EW. It would focus on what happens when criminals aren't sent to death row and the behind-the-scenes dealmaking; the justice system's give and take will play a part in Brenda's exit.
Last season of The Closer earned Sedgwick a best actress Emmy and became the show's most-watched season, averaging 8.4 million viewers.
Are you excited for more of The Closer? Would you watch the possible spin-off?
