Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011
The big four networks' schedules were disrupted Wednesday by news coverage of the memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., that included a speech by President Obama. The news coverage ran from about 8:40 to 9:20 p.m. ET, and several shows were pre-empted and replaced at the last minute with repeats.
ABC came out on top for the night, but its new series "Off the Map" didn't make a whole lot of noise in the 10 o'clock hour. It improved significantly on the network's weak season average in the timeslot but still finished only second in the hour.
Numbers for the big four will all change some because of their live news coverage, but as things stand now ABC led the night with a little over 9 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/9 share in households. NBC (6.3 million, 4.1/6) narrowly beat CBS (6.2 million, 4.1/6) for second. FOX was a distant fourth with 2.4 million viewers and a 1.6/2, while The CW drew 2.1 million people and a 1.4/2 with a pair of reruns.
ABC also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 2.9 rating. NBC's 1.8 was good enough for second place. CBS, 1.4, came in third, followed by FOX, 0.8, and The CW, 0.6.
