{alltv} TVGuide.com's 2011 Golden Globe Predictions: Who Will Win?

wine.com
It's that time of the year again: awards season! The glitz and glamour kick off with Sunday's Golden Globe Awards (8 ET/5 PT on NBC). Will Mad Men score an unprecedented four-peat? Can The Social Network rack up yet another win? Check out our predictions below and tell us your picks for the big prizes.

TELEVISION
Drama Series

Will win: Boardwalk Empire

The HBO drama hit the scene with tons of buzz and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a penchant for recognizing newbies. Fellow acclaimed new kid, The Walking Dead, could siphon votes, but Boardwalk's two acting nominations (compared to zero for the zombie hit) give it an edge.
Watch out for: Mad Men

The HFPA is not a creature of habit, which is what makes Mad Men's three-year streak even more astounding. Before its win last year, no drama had ever three-peated at the Globes, which, obviously, means it would be the first to four-peat. And after a sublime season, that wouldn't be undeserved.

Comedy/Musical Series
Will win: Glee

The defending champ leads all TV nominees and, in keeping with the glitz of the Globes, is the flashier choice for voters.
Watch out for: Modern Family

The Emmy winner is as sharp, hysterical and heartwarming as ever.

Drama Actor
Will win:
Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
The Globes won't be able to resist being the first organization to bestow an honor on a veteran actor in a hot new show.
Watch out for:
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Two words: "The Suitcase." The only thing that may work against Hamm is the fact that voters really don't like repeat champs in this category (Hamm won in 2008). In the past 27 years, only one man has managed to win more than once: House's
Hugh Laurie, who's nominated this year as well.

Drama Actress
Will win:
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Same two words: "The Suitcase." Moss was transcendent in the episode and this could be the place to award Mad Men so it doesn't go home empty-handed.
Watch out for:
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
The reigning champ continues to enthrall in a drama that's getting more popular by the minute.

Comedy/Musical Actor
Will win:
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
The comedy's series nomination is a huge breakthrough, given the
HFPA's weird CBS sitcom bias, and Emmy champ Parsons carries the show.
Watch out for:
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
The Globes apparently can't get enough Jack Donaghy: Baldwin's won three times in the last four years.

Comedy/Musical Actress
Will win:
Laura Linney, The Big C
Cathy Jamison seems to be tailor-made for Linney, who is charming and heartbreaking as a woman liberated by the knowledge of death.
Watch out for:
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
The two-time Globe winner and reigning Emmy champ was passed over last year for Showtime's third gal, Toni Collette (United States of Tara).

Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie
Will win:
Chris Colfer, Glee
Kurt has gotten the juiciest of story lines, which Colfer has handled with aplomb.
Watch out for:
David Strathairn, Temple Grandin
You can never count out the TV movie/miniseries nominees.

Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie
Will win:
Jane Lynch, Glee
There was outrage when she lost last year. Imagine if she were denied again.
Watch out for:
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
With her impeccable line delivery and hilarious malapropisms, Vergara is often the MVP of the ensemble and has created a sweet, sassy and saucy character that could've easily been clichéd. Besides, who doesn't want to hear her speech?

FILM

Drama Picture
Will win: The King's Speech
The King's Speech needs this more than The Social Network, which has been picking up critics' awards left and right. But this is the HFPA, a group with a fondness for elegant, well-crafted, prestige period pieces (see: Sense and Sensibility's, Atonement's and The Aviator's wins) and is not afraid to buck the trend. The film's subject matter could also easily win over the foreign press.
Watch out for: The Social Network
Hip, relevant and full of buzz. A win here will officially make it the one to beat at the Oscars.

Comedy/Musical Picture
Will win: The Kids Are All Right
None of the other nominees holds a candle to this smart and achingly bittersweet family dramedy.
Watch out for: Alice in Wonderland
The crowd-pleasing money-maker of the bunch.

Drama Actor
Will win:
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
Firth follows up last year's nominated virtuoso performance in A Single Man with another masterful turn as the stuttering duke who was never meant to be king. You can't make up such perfect awards bait!
Watch out for:
James Franco, 127 Hours
The "It" guy of the moment can seemingly do it all — that includes winning his second Globe.

Drama Actress
Will win:
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
It's a career-defining, tour-de-force performance that's just begging to be honored.
Watch out for:
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
A three-time Globe champ, Kidman is devastating as a mother in mourning. Unfortunately, the film itself has more or less fallen off the map.

Comedy/Musical Actor
Will win:
Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
He's nominated against himself (for The Tourist), but should be able to eke out the win for his maddening Mad Hatter. Depp is also an HFPA fave: These are his ninth and 10th nominations — but he's only won once.
Watch out for:
Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version
He's brilliant in an underrated film.

Comedy/Musical Actress
Will win:
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Done deal. Our one request, Mrs. Beatty: Please spare us from another snooze-inducing speech.
Watch out for:
Emma Stone, Easy A
If Bening and co-star Julianne Moore split votes, Stone can sneak in, as the HFPA hearts ingénues.

Supporting Actor
Will win:
Christian Bale, The Fighter
It's a dynamite and transformative performance from a big name who has never won any big awards.
Watch out for:
Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
In all seriousness, Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech) is Bale's closest competitor, but Douglas could get the sentimental vote.

Supporting Actress
Will win:
Amy Adams, The Fighter
The most open-ended race of the year, it can end with any of the five ladies taking this. But Adams has the star factor that the Globes loves. The three-time nominee is also refreshing in an against-type, no-nonsense role that grounds the film amid its sea of over-the-top (and poorly coiffed) characters.
Watch out for:
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Leo has won the bulk of the precursors for her far showier and explosive role that grabs your attention from the get-go.
