In other royal movie casting news, British actor Richard Reid has landed the role of the prince's good friend "Ian," a character based on William's real-life bud, Guy Pelly.
What's more, Reid has got actual royal connections. The actor, 26, is the son of the Queen's treasurer, and it was those family ties that kept him from the role of William.
"It probably wasn't a role I'd be able to do at the end of the day," Reid told E! online of playing Prince William. "I think my dad would have stepped in and put the brakes on it … I think my dad is happy and a lot more comfortable than he would have been if I had been playing William."
