At least one person won't check Donald Trump's name if the Celebrity Apprentice host should actually make it onto a presidential ballot: Bill Cosby.
Cosby appeared on the Today show Wednesday morning to tout his own efforts to further education in lower income urban areas. When Meredith Vieira asked the comedian and former TV star his thoughts about Trump's political aspirations, Cosby said Trump is "full of it."
Cosby later elaborated that he's frustrated by Trump's back-and-forth attitude about the possible 2012 presidential run. "You run or shut up," Cosby said. "Look, people have run for president for any reason. Come on, open your mouth — run!"
Trump has said he will wait for the current season of Celebrity Apprentice to end before he makes any official announcement, in keeping with election law. If he made a formal move now, NBC would have to stop airing the show.
In any case, before Cosby's appearance, Today aired Vieira's taped interview with Trump, during which the New York real estate mogul again discussed President Barack Obama's birth certificate, what Trump thinks of other Republican politicians and his feelings about the wars in the Middle East. In short, Trump suggested that America should devote all of its focus on Iran and remove troops from Afghanistan.
"There's nobody more militaristic than me, but it's also called attack the right target," Trump said. "Iran is going to take over Iraq, because we have de-neutered Iraq, you know that, in terms of their military. ... They're going take over the oil fields. ... And if that's going to happen, I say we take over the oil fields ... I would take over the oil fields, because otherwise, Iran is going to take over the second-biggest oil fields in the world. I would absolutely, without question, not leave that section of that country. I would take the oil. To the victor belong the spoils. "
Trump also said that battles should not be fought with soldiers on the ground. "I don't believe in foot soldiers. They get blown up on streets," Trump said. "But I do believe in airplanes that are 50,000 feet up. And when we see through intelligence what's going on, knock the hell out. ... I'm not going to have soldiers walking down on the street and get blown up and get shot at by snipers and killed. ... I do it through the air, and we're not going to have casualties."
