John Krasinski -- aka cynical Jim Halpert on The Office -- is not ashamed to admit he cried after filming his last scene ever with departing star Steve Carell. The episode, the third last of the season, airs tonight.
"Steve's last episode was about four weeks ago, and it was brutal," says Krasinski, who'll be seen next week in the Kate Hudson romance Something Borrowed. "I only say so clearly now because it wasn't so clear when it was happening. I think I was under the impression of my logical brain saying, 'This is just what happens. People move on. They have contracts that expire, and there's nothing personal.'
"Then you realize that this huge part of your show, a huge part of your everyday life, a huge part of the energy around you is gone. And it's just sad to lose a friend like that.
"I definitely cried the last day. I wasn't expecting it. The last scene of the day was the goodbye of our characters. We hadn't said goodbye yet, so it was an incredibly existential black hole. Way too much happening. So there were definitely tears."
That said, Krasinski maintained that the atmosphere on the show post-Carell remains optimistic. "It was tough, but it's all fantastic. And our energy level on set is just tremendous. We all feel incredibly excited about what's to come.

"Everybody was talking about a spinoff, like, two and a half, three years ago. And this is our spinoff: The Office without Steve."
