{alltv} 'Fringe's' Joshua Jackson: 'The fans of the show saved us'

No one is a bigger "Fringe" fan than Joshua Jackson. When we talked to him in January he was visibly relieved by the show's solid performance on Friday nights.

Let's just say it's very clear that this man loves his job and wants to hang onto it for as long as possible. He's not one of those TV actors who wants to bail to give the film industry a shot. (We're guessing that might have to do with the fact that he's been there, done that.)

It's likely he was just as thrilled as we were, if not more so, when FOX made the surprise move of giving "Fringe" an early full-season pickup. "The fans of the show saved us," he tells Chelsea Handler. "They kept us going. They started a whole campaign sending Red Vines, which if you watch the show you know are sort of Walter's happy place, and they sent the Red Vines in to FOX, and I think that tipped it in our favor. It couldn't be anything that we did on camera. It must've been the red vines."

Handler, of course, is a fan of bringing up anything remotely embarrassing in her guests' pasts, and for Josh, she decided to discuss his elementary school nickname: Babydoll. "It sounds extremely gay," the always-PC host says.

"At eight or nine, I guess it played, but not so much at 32," Josh laughs. "We were playing probably dodgeball or hockey at recess, and I don't know what got into me, but I scored a goal or did something I thought was good and I screamed out, 'Babydoll!' and that was it for the next six or seven years."

He discusses his non-marriage to Diane Kruger (they wear rings symbolizing their commitment, but they haven't tied the knot), her haircutting genes, his plans to learn French, and Comic-Con sex. And also something about some "Dawson's Creek" related gay porn. Don't miss it.
