Jimmy Iovine's thrilled with where Haley Reinhart is in the competition right now, after getting off to a slow start. "There's no way I could not say I'm growing in a tremendous way," says Haley.
Haley's going with Blondie's Call Me (from American Gigolo). "Haley now has to transform herself not into Debbie Harry" but into a character equally as powerful, Jimmy says.
Haley muffs the first couple notes but settles in quickly. The song gives her plenty of appropriate places to growl, and she nails the all-important "Call me!" exclamations. She coos in sultry French during the bridge. She gets a little sloppy when she starts to have too much fun. On the other hand, she's clearly having lots of fun, and that always counts for something. If last week didn't do her in, this week shouldn't either. (They can't send home six straight girls. Can they?)
But Randy has criticism! "I didn't love at the beginning of it. ... I don't know if it was the song that didn't really do it for me. It just wasn't a showcase for your voice."
Steven agrees, but "I've always said when you sing choruses, and you nail them in that just-right voice ... it was beautiful."
"If I'm going to be totally honest, I'm going to agree more with Randy," says Jennifer, but then she admits that she's reluctant to say anything bad about the girls for fear they'll go home. Still, buy comparison to the rest of tonight's comments, Jennifer rips Haley a new one.
Maybe Jennifer became the world's most beautiful woman by eliminating the competition. Two more weeks of that and there won't be any of other women on this stage.
