LORRAINE BRODERICK NAMED HEAD WRITER OF ABC'S "ALL MY CHILDREN"

Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group announced today that Lorraine Broderick has been named head writer of ABC's Emmy(r) Award-winning daytime drama, "All My Children."

Broderick has long standing history with "All My Children." She originally joined the show as scriptwriter and breakdown writer in 1979 under the guidance of then head writer Agnes Nixon.
In 1982 she was promoted to associate head writer, and in 1986 to the position of co-head writer. One year later she held the position of sole head writer on the show. After 12 years Broderick left to serve as co-head writer of "Guiding Light," then as head writer for "Another World," to return to "All My Children" in 1995. Following a second leave from the show, she wrote for "As the World Turns" and "Days of Our Lives," ABC's "Port Charles" and, in 2001, as head writer of ABC's "One Life to Live." Following her tenure with "One Life to Live," she accepted a position as a screenwriting and playwriting professor at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and in 2009 returned to "All My Children" as associate head writer. Broderick has won a total of four Daytime Emmy Awards for her works as head writer for "All My Children."

"All My Children" celebrated its 41st anniversary on January 5, 2011. The program has successfully maintained its popularity and continues to be one of daytime's most compelling dramas. "All My Children" took home the 1998 Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, the third time the show received this top honor, having also garnered the award in 1994 and 1992. In 2004 the show also received its third consecutive Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series Writing, its third Writers Guild Award and its fourth GLAAD Media Award in March 2007.

Created by Agnes Nixon, "All My Children" premiered on the ABC Television Network on January 5, 1970, as a half-hour show; seven years later it expanded to an hour.
