Nigel Lythgoe has shot back at Lee DeWyze's claim that he was given a last-minute request to appear onstage at Wednesday's American Idol finale.
"True, he wasn't asked to sing, but Lee knows he was asked to present the trophy [to the new Idol] a week before," Lythgoe tweeted.
Lythgoe, who had expressed disappointment Thursday that DeWyze declined to pass the baton to Scotty McCreery, was responding to the Season 9 champ's tweet that said Lythgoe approached him "about 2 minutes before they announced" the winner.
"I didn't feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty's moment," DeWyze tweeted late Thursday. "I am not angry, or bitter etc. It was an amazing Finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasn't asked."
The Idol executive producer claims he doesn't want to fan the flames any longer — despite doing so with his tweeted denial of how events unfolded.
"I don't wish to continue the @leedewyze story," Lythgoe's tweet concluded.
Looks like DeWyze doesn't want to either. The singer tweeted in response Friday afternoon: "I have no hard feelings towards Nigel, Idol, or anyone else. I love music, and that's what I'm going to focus on. I support American Idol...and all it has done for me. I respect the decisions made for the Finale, and hope alls well that ends well. Thank you guys for everything. AND I'm getting a tattoo today :)"
