PBS plans a fall arts festival that will showcase local scenes on a national stage. Included in PBS Arts, a nine-week series due on Friday nights starting Oct. 14, are Give Me the Banjo, an exploration of American music, a collaboration with a North Carolina station narrated by Steve Martin; Women Who Rock, inspired by an exhibit at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and Great Performances from the Miami City Ballet.
"It's an interesting way for us to do something that's both national and local, and shines a brighter light around what's happening around the country in the world of arts," says PBS chief Paula Kerger.
PBS also set air dates for Ken Burns' latest documentary, Prohibition, airing over six hours from Oct. 2-4, and announced The Fabric of the Cosmos, a four-part Nova miniseries starting Nov. 2 with physicist Brian Greene.
