The rumors of Cheryl Cole being booted from the US "X Factor" judges' panel continue to run rampant, with no comment from Simon Cowell or FOX execs. One person who has spoken publicly about it is fellow judge Paula Abdul... who essentially had no idea what was going on. At a press event in Singapore, Abdul was asked about the judge shake-up, and she was as clueless as ever.
"This is all news to me, I was travelling you know, I'm fifteen hours ahead and apparently it has captured the news while I was travelling, I am just finding out things as you are," she says. "I don't know any information, I don't know whether or not it's true. You probably know more than I do."
She does, however, counter rumors that a lack of chemistry between them was part of the reason Cole was ousted. "All I can tell you is that she is lovely, and I was really excited about the relationship and friendship we were forging and regardless I am looking forward to continuing with that. She's wonderful," she says.
Meanwhile, the UK's Mirror reports that Cowell is "begging" Cole to head up the UK version of "X Factor" as a consolation prize now that her big American debut has been thwarted. Additionally, "The Voice," which has made a splash with US audiences, is now moving over to the BBC, and Cole is apparently being courted for that gig as well.
"It would be a fresh start for her and would mean she could work with people who she trusts and who have her best interests at heart. It would also be a great way of sticking two fingers up at Simon Cowell," says a source at her record company, who notes that Cole has only been offered half of her previous "X Factor" salary to return to the UK version.
