{alltv} Daytime Emmy Awards: A Night of Bold and the Beautiful Victory, Ellen Excellence and Lots of Ties

Not everyone is ready to joke about the cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live…particularly the crowd at the 38th Annual Daytime Emmys.

Host Wayne Brady opened the show with a rather awkward monologue that garnered him more boos than laughs...

"Oprah retired, Regis retired. All My Children and One Life to Live, Erica Kane, forced retirement," Brady said, while the camera panned to a shot of a stone-faced Susan Lucci in the audience. "Don't boo me," Brady said after the crowd let out a few jeers. "I didn't write this crap."

Thankfully, the tension eased up when Rachael Ray and company stepped on stage next to present the award to General Hospital's Jonathan Jackson for best supporting actor.

Lucci, who later presented the outstanding actress award, also lightened up, saying daytime soap watchers "are alive and well. Look at all the talent in this building tonight. We got fans on fire, thank you so much for being there for all of us."

And then it was on with the show.

But not even a cancellation could garner a sympathy vote for All My Children or One Life to Live in the outstanding drama category, which The Bold and the Beautiful took home. The soap dominated the night, taking home Emmys in the supporting actress, directing and outstanding younger actor categories as well.

And while Oprah Winfrey removed herself from some of the award show's top categories, her protégé Dr. Oz represented for the Harpo team in her absence, taking home the award for Outstanding Informative Talk Show and Talk Show Host, for which he tied with Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. The show also paid tribute to Winfrey with a performance by Gladys Knight and honored her with Crystal Pillar Award, although she wasn't in attendance.

Ellen DeGeneres and her crew nabbed the Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show award.

Also honored were Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek, who took home Lifetime Achievement Awards, and tied for an Emmy for their game shows, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
