The Emmy nominations come through just after 5:30 a.m. on the west coast -- where most television actors live and would probably prefer to be sleeping.
But its an honor worth waking up for, so when the 2011 nominations came through on July 14, recognized cast members, writers and showrunners from this year's celebrated series started extending their thanks and congratulations to each other. Some clearly make better early risers than others.
So while you mull who made the cut, who got snubbed and what you're going to wear on Sep. 18, here are a few of some of the best instant reactions to be found:
- Outstanding lead actor in a comedy nominee Alec Baldwin released a very diplomatic "I'm very grateful to the Academy and I'm looking forward to Season 6 of '30 Rock,'" before he got a bit more candid on Twitter. "Thank you for the congratulations re: the Emmys," he writes. "My one wish....I want Jane Krakowski to win."
- And Baldwin isn't the only contender to throw some love towards a co-star. "Thank you so much for all the congratulating tweets," "Glee" supporting actor Chris Colfer posted this morning. "I'm so excited for all of our nominations! Especially [Dot Marie Jones]! I love that girl!" (Jones, who plays Coach Shannon Beiste, is nominated for outstanding guest actress in a comedy.)
- Jones' fellow "Glee" guest and nominee Kristin Chenoweth got up early when she heard the news, before going right back to bed: "Completely in shock," she writes. "Thanks all! Gonna nap! Heehee and dream happy thoughts :) congrats to all the girls nominated!"
- Johnny Galecki recognized his first nod for "Big Bang Theory" with a statement that bodes well for an acceptance speech. "All the coffee in Columbia could not catch my brain up to my heart's pace this morning," he says. "I couldn't possibly be more thrilled / honored /touched at the news of this nomination. And I am absolutely ecstatic that the show itself and everyone's hard work there has been recognized as well."
- Three-time "Friends" nominee Matt LeBlanc returns to the Emmys as an outstanding lead actor in a comedy nominee for his work on "Episodes": "I'm honored to be considered and very proud of our show," he says. "Everyone worked so hard, and I'm even more excited about the writing nomination for Jeffrey [Klarik] and David [Crane]. They definitely deserve it. I'm looking forward to going back to work soon on season two. It's going to be a blast."
- Last year's supporting actor in a comedy winner Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") didn't have to get up early. He heard news of his nomination 9 time zones away. "In Belgium so my EMMY response will b in Flemish," he posted to Twitter. "Wauw! ik ben zo blij en fier over onze cast en onze show. Ik ben heel dankbaar en vereerd." (Roughly translated, he says, "Wow! I am so happy and proud of our cast and our show. I am very grateful and honored.")
- Stonestreet's onscreen love Jesse Tyler Ferguson was also nominated -- and as a guest judge on last night's "So You Think You Can Dance," he made a point of saying that host Cat Deeley should finally be recognized in the outstanding host for a reality-competition program category. And then she was. "See how I did that! Amazing! So happy for you!" he tweeets to the host. Her response? "And congratulations to you! See you there!"
- But for all as the genuinely humbled. "Friday Night Lights" showrunner Jason Katims sounded off on the series' first nom for outstanding drama, as well as lead nominations for stars Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. "What a complete shock and surprise," he says. "I am beyond thrilled and excited for the Emmy nominations that 'Friday Nights' has received. It's like an episode of the show -- a hail mary pass in the last seconds of the game. What a great moment to share with the crew, cast, writers, directors, producers, NBC, DirecTV -- all who have contributed in a seminal way to this show that I'm so proud of. Additionally, I am so proud of Connie and Kyle for their much deserved recognition. Individually, they have given extraordinary nuanced performances and together have created one of the sweetest and poignant depictions of marriage on television."
Look out for more Emmy nominee reactions to trickle in throughout the day.
