Once from Joisey, always from Joisey.
Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito and Susan Sarandon were among those Hollywood stars hailing from the Golden State to be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame Sunday.
Per the New Jersey Star-Ledger, turning out to help usher in the class of '10 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark was favorite son Bruce Springsteen, who paid tribute to DeVito and and later teamed up with the pint-size actor for a rendition of "Glory Days."
"He has Jersey attitude pouring out of him, even when he is standing still," the Boss said of DeVito, a native of Neptune who once named his former production company Jersey Films. "His persona exemplifies what it means to be one of us."
You know the award meant something to Nicholson when he skipped a Lakers playoff game to be there. The big-screen icon reminisced about growing up on the Shore and told the audience, "I could sing the praises of New Jersey all night." Sarandon recalled her childhood camping and growing vegetables in Edison and, true to progressive form, praised her state for legalizing medical marijuana.
Other New Jersey notables making the cut were singer Frankie Valli, author Judy Blume, Olympian Carl Lewis, the late great jazz legend Count Basie and guitar hero Les Paul. Presenters included Goodfella's Joe Pesci and Apollo astronaut and former Dancing With the Stars contestant Buzz Aldrin.
