LAS VEGAS -- It's no big secret that Sin City is a magnet for stars.
And for those who flock to the strip looking to get lucky by rubbing elbows with their favourite celebs, there are a few tricks to making it a reality.
There's huge misconception that as soon as A-listers touch down, they jump in a limo and barricade themselves in their luxury suite until they have to come out for show time.
In fact, a lot of them frequently frolic amongst the commoners, hitting up the casino floors or taking a stroll down the strip. The key is to keep your head up.
The top 10 star-spotting tips:
10. Conventions
![]() | |
Many of them take part in film industry conventions in the city, and a good chunk take part in meet-and-greets. You may have to line up for hours, but it's the simplest way to meet your top actor. Charlize Theron, James Cameron, and Soleil Moon Frye have all taken part in recent movie gatherings.
9. Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat
While you are getting pictures of the lions, tigers and dolphins, make sure you have your camera ready to point at some famous parents. Britney Spears loves taking her kids to the Mirage attraction when she's in town. Halle Berry, Demi Moore and Pam Anderson have also been known to bring their loved ones there to hang out with the animals.
8. High-limit gaming rooms
If you have the cash and the talent, you may be able to spend a few hours playing high-stakes Texas Hold-Em with some celebs and some famous poker players. Jessica Simpson's ex Tony Romo likes to gamble at the high limit room at the Hard Rock, ex "Seinfeld" star Jason Alexander likes to try his luck at Planet Hollywood's big money tables, and Ray Romano likes the Mirage's craps tables.
7. The Strip
While you are walking down Las Vegas Boulevard amongst the throngs, keep in mind that you could be strolling alongside a famous face. We spotted Holly Madison (see photo above) taking a break from "Peep Show" at Planet Hollywood to celebrate St. Patrick's Day back in March by playing beer pong on the street with hundreds of Irish partygoers.
6. Shows
There are hundreds of productions up and down the strip, but some frequently attract star power. The Beatles' "Love" show is a Vegas staple for Jon Bon Jovi, Slash and Hugh Hefner, while Treasure Island's "Mystere" has recently been the theatrical destination for Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Wayne Gretzky.
5. Night clubs
There's always a star hosting a party every day of the week -- they get paid a hefty sum, and they are treated like royalty. Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have made a living off of it. However, the chances of you getting close to them are slim, unless you have a spare $2,000 for your own private table with bottle service. We did manage to hobnob with Carrot Top when we visited the newly-opened Blush Boutique at Wynn, and as long as you don't come across as a lunatic, many stars have no problem giving you a photo opportunity.
4. Wynn-Encore Hotels
Another star magnet is casino developer Steve Wynn. There is a reason his Wynn and adjacent Encore hotels are considered the best in the world. A keen mix of luxury and affordability it what sets it apart from the rest (If you are there, a recommendation -- treat yourself to the Spa at Encore -- it's three hours of heaven). And, of course, its notable visitors: Conan O'Brien, Carrie Underwood and "Sex and the City" stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have all been spotted hanging around the lobby in the last few months. Rocker Bono, who is good friends with Mr. Wynn, stays there with his fellow U2ers every time he's in town.
3. Planet Hollywood Casino
Many of the hotels on the strip are rife with celebs (especially since a lot of them have a huge financial stake in clubs and restaurants), but Planet Hollywood is a standout for star power. When you have Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the key money figures behind the hotel, you are bound to see a bunch of their pals hanging around the casino. We spotted hip-hop star Snoop Dogg (with a surly bodyguard in tow) trying his luck in the "Pleasure Pit" and rocker Tommy Lee strolling down the casino escalator during our last visit. Paula Abdul likes to toss her money around there as well.
2. McCarron International Airport
While you are taking a few first pulls of a slot machine after landing in LV or standing there waiting for your luggage to be tossed on to the carousel, take a look around. Not all stars take private jets and limos -- you can frequently see them among the regular travellers, doing the same thing you are -- patiently waiting for their baggage, or standing in the mile-long line waiting for a taxi. Jeremy Irons, Drew Barrymore and former CFL star and philathropist "Pinball" Clemons are just a few that we've seen in the last few trips.
1. Forum Shops @ Caesars Palace
Vegas's premiere 636,000-square-foot luxury mall is a star catcher, since they probably know most of us can't afford to shop or dine there. However, there's nothing wrong with browsing in the high-end boutiques, pretending that you can afford the $1,000 Gucci bag. You also may be dishing out a day's pay to eat at Spago - go in, get a cold drink on the patio, and stare at the clientele. Eva Longoria Parker, Don Cheadle and Joan Collins have all been chowing down there in recent weeks. If you're not thirsty, park your rear end on one of the many benches in the middle of the mall, and play "spot the celeb" with a friend.
