{alltv} 'American Idol': Ellen DeGeneres' 'lesbian-one-liners' to blame for ratings decline, says Christian Newswire

10
Everyone has their theory on why "American Idol's" ratings dropped this season.

Could it be that Season 9's contestants were snoozers? Or that Simon Cowell was over this season before it started and nearly put us to sleep with his bored, empty stares and lackluster commentary? Or how about this season's lack of the ever-amusing "Is she off her meds again?" antics of Paula Abdul.

Well, the Christian Newswire's Gary McCullough has his own theory on "American Idol's" declining ratings: Ellen DeGeneres is a lesbian.

McCullough brags in a recent post that he called the ratings drop back in January:

"I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue."

He points out one "lesbian-one-liner" as an example of the type of comments he believes brought the show's ratings crashing down. McCullough recounts Ellen's "Yes, I have loved a woman" comment from the May 11th show, and he says it's this kind of remark that has spurred moms and dads everywhere to turn the channel -- since "the subtle promotion of an 'alternate lifestyle' to their kids was not worth the entertainment trade off."

Umm ... "the subtle promotion of an 'alternate lifestyle'"? Do we have to remind McCullough of the flirty/suggestive/awkward banter that Cowell and Ryan Seacrest have been carrying on with for years now?

McCullough wraps up his oh-so-enlightening article with a line he probably wrote with a proud snicker:

"Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have 'Dancing with the Stars' seat Roman Polanski as a judge."

Hmm ... we're glad you brought up "Dancing With the Stars," Gary. It just so happens that this reality show scored some of its highest ratings ever this season ... with the very openly gay Bruno Tonioli on the judge panel. We guess all the "wholesome" folks watching "DWTS" didn't get the gay memo.

Furthermore, "The Ellen DeGeneres" show does just fine in the ratings, and Ellen has openly referenced her wife Portia de Rossi on her show more than a few times -- to a room full of soccer moms who have flown from all over the country just to sit in her studio audience.

Sorry, Gary, but we're just not buying your theory.

What do YOU think about the Christian Newswire's assessment that Ellen's sexual orientation caused "Idol's" ratings decline?
