'Days of Our Lives' Suzanne Rogers remembers Frances Reid

The June 25 episode of "Days of Our Lives" honors Frances Reid, who passed away on Feb. 3, 2010 after 40 years of playing the daytime drama's matriarch, Alice Grayson Horton. The clip-filled tribute episode, which eulogizes both the actress and the character, marks the return of many characters who will be familiar to long-time "Days of Our Lives" fans.

Zap2it recently caught up with Suzanne Rogers, who marks her 37th year on "Days of Our Lives" as Alice's daughter-in-law, Maggie Horton. "I hope I did her proud," Rogers says of the much-anticipated episode. She pauses for a moment as she fights tears. "It's very fresh, still."

Off-camera, the cast had a private memorial for Reid. "I got up and spoke," Rogers says. "I love this woman."

From the day Rogers showed up as Maggie, the injured farm girl, Reid welcomed her with open arms. "She knew I was out here by myself, my parents were on the east coast," Rogers tells us. "So it was like she kind of took me under her wing and gave me advice."

She laughs, remembering, "Sometimes she'd say, 'You're not going to wear your hair like that, are you?' or we would be having scenes together and she'd say something like, 'You gonna say it that way?'... We would talk about things. She loved to travel, and I hadn't traveled at all, so we had wonderful things to talk about in that aspect. She was just a great, great lady."
