Director Nick Cassavetes made an appearance on the June 27 season premiere of "Entourage," as himself, of course. Vinny (Adrian Grenier) is back at the top of his game thanks to Martin Scorcese's "Great Gatsby," and he takes a role in Cassavetes' latest action movie.
Cassavetes is perhaps best known for directing "John Q" and "The Notebook," which he has said he considers his worst film. He followed it up with "Alpha Dog," starring Justin Timberlake and Emile Hirsch, and the Cameron Diaz tearjerker "My Sister's Keeper."
As his "Entourage" appearance may suggest, Cassavetes also has plenty of experience acting. His IMDB profile boasts over thirty small and sometimes uncredited roles. He's from a showbiz family, with actor parents John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands.
Cassavetes' frenetic energy is a good contrast to Grenier's laid-back stoner vibe. Plus, we can appreciate people who fearlessly play themselves as... well, total jerks.
