{alltv} 'Glee': 11 Top tearjerker moments

MedScope Medical Alert Systems
For a show named "Glee," it sure makes us cry plenty.

The hit FOX show about high school misfits united by their love of singing and dancing does its share of pulling at a our heartstrings, and a viewing of "Glee" just doesn't feel complete if we're not reaching for a hanky.

As the first season comes to a close Tuesday (June 8), we take a look back at what moments made us sniffle, gulp and bawl the most.

(Rated out of 4 handkerchiefs)

Burt and Kurt Hummel in almost every episode they're in together: (4 hankies)
The father and son combo never fails to slice up those dramatic onions because we're always tearing up watching them. Whether it's Burt defending Kurt's honor against Finn, Kurt coming out to dad or Kurt finally owning his identity cabaret-style, those Hummels know how to make us hurt ... in a good way.

Puck and Beth: (1 1/2 hankies)
That Puckerman is usually a rascal, but he is sincere about wanting to care for Quinn's baby. He totally got us when he sang the melancholy "Beth" and then later asked for the baby Puckerman to be named Beth. Aww!

Mercedes gets a moment of truth from Quinn: (2 hankies)
We didn't know that Quinn would eventually move in with Mercedes, but perhaps the field of friendship was seeded when Mercedes decides to lose weight to maintain her Cheerios standing and then Quinn confronts her in the nurse's office, telling her that she used to starve herself too until she began eating for two. We lost it.

Mr. Schue discovers wife Terri's been lying about the pregnancy: (2 1/2 hankies)
Will Schuester is about as idealistic as they come, which is what makes him such an inspiring and good glee club coach. So when he finds out that his wife has been faking her pregnancy we can almost audibly hear his heartbreaking -- not only because his love for his wife is dust but so are the dreams he had for a little Baby Schue.

glee-idina-menzel-lea-michele-theatricality-320.jpgRachel and Shelby Corcoran sing "Poker Face": (3 hankies)
As mother-daughter moments go, this is probably the most unusual but it works incredibly well in that alternate "Glee" world. Yes, they previously sang "I Dreamed a Dream" together, which killed, but "Poker Face" was THE moment when they realize just how good they are together -- if only in song. It's a triumphant moment but simultaneously marks their farewell to each other. The silence after the song was only broken by our sniffles.

Finn discusses his dead father with his mom: (3 hankies)
When Carole Hudson starts dating Kurt's dad, Finn rebels, thinking she's not respecting the memory of is deceased father. She reveals to him that she tried for 10 years to keep his memory alive, talking to his spirit every night ... but never hearing back. Oh, please Finn, you already lost one parent, must you make your other parent miserable too?

Quinn's dad throws her out of the house
: (3 1/2 hankies)
On the heels of Finn serenading the Fabray household about his (false) baby daddyhood, this is a jarring scene. Quinn is just starting to show hope of a good future for her baby when her parents turn their backs on her. That's just so cold, especially when there's a baby involved, that we feel heartsick for everyone involved.

Emma hears dirt about Mr. Schue from Sue: (1 1/2 hankies)
Emma Pillsbury is just a tragic character in general, being a guidance counselor but needing to help herself the most. Those Bambi eyes of hers make every emotion that much more heartfelt, and she's been working so hard on her issues, so when she learns that Will Schuester has been cosying up to Shelby Corcoran and April Rhodes, we want to give her a lollipop and tell her everything will be OK. And then we want to smack Sue.

Artie failed attempt to walk: (4 hankies)
Tina's support of Artie's dream to not only walk but also dance is already wistful, but when he falls flat on his face and yells at her in anger and frustration, our hearts break twice for both of them. Later, Artie's mall-dancing fantasy ("Safety Dance") that gives way to stark reality, his tough love talk from guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury and watching Artie watch Tina dance with Mike Chang made us positively mournful.

glee-sue-will-funk-320.jpgSue Sylvester is twice lovelorn: (2 hankies)
We all get a thrill when Sue is her most vile, so it's distressing to see when she's actually hurt emotionally. The first significant time is when she finds out that other newscaster is cheating on her, and the second time is when she's stood up by Will. Really, seeing her alone, forlorn and wearing pearls with her tracksuit? Wretchedness.

"Don't Stop Believin'": (3 1/2 hankies)
This was our first clue that "Glee" would make us get all choked up emotionally when the kids overcome all the doubts and prove to themselves and the audience that they can deliver the goods. For a while, episode after episode had a similarly triumphant group song ("True Colors," "Imagine," etc.) but nothing beats the original.

We wonder what tearjerker moments the finale will bring. We have our box of tissues ready.

What are you favorite "Glee" tearjerker moments?
