Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan has — and she will be missed.
Sashaying around the lanai in her silk robe, McClanahan played the role of lusty Southerner Blanche Devereaux to the hilt from 1985 to 1992, winning an Emmy for the role in 1987. When Blanche wasn't skipping out with one of her many suitors, McClanahan churned out amazing one-liners, such as when she offered Dorothy (Bea Arthur) one of her sons in exchange for her car. "I've had 4 kids, I've never had a Mercedes. So, which one do you want? Biff, Doug, Skippy? No, don't take Skippy, he's got asthma." And when describing her latest date: "He is so sophisticated and charming and rich and handsome. He fairly screams Blanche. At least, he will when I'm through with him."
Devereaux was just one of the star's many memorable roles: A veteran of Broadway (she most recently appeared in Wicked), McClanahan also costarred with Arthur in from 1972 to 1978.
