TNT is set to hit the track in high gear in Pocono, Pa., on Sunday with the start of its 2010 Cup Series six-week race package with new faces, new features and more interactivity to provide fans with the most comprehensive multi-platform NASCAR experience possible.
Turner's coverage will also feature for the first time live race day online video chats on NASCAR.COM with TNT's announcers, new enhancements to TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.COM, a weekly "TNT Million Dollar Fan Challenge" and the return of Wide Open Coverage during the race in Daytona (July 3).
Airing during Countdown to Green on Sunday will be new pre-race host Lindsay Czarniak's exclusive interview with Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs to discuss the challenges of ownership and the recent on-track driver clashes between his drivers. Gibbs has won three Cup Series championships as an owner, along with the three Super Bowls he won as head coach of the Washington Redskins. Airing June 13 in Michigan will be Czarniak's exclusive sit-down interview with NASCAR president Mike Helton to discuss the state of the sport.
TNT bolsters its marquee roster of announcers with new play-by-play announcer Adam Alexander, new pre-race host Czarniak and the addition of pit reporter Phil Parsons. Alexander will debut in the TNT booth alongside analysts Wally Dallenbach and Kyle Petty. In addition, Czarniak will helm the network's new 60-minute pre-race Countdown to Green coverage, with Petty and Larry McReynolds joining her on the TNT rig.
Czarniak will also provide in-race reports trackside throughout the race with McReynolds, who will man the TNT Off-Track Robotic Car (TORC), which provides a unique look inside the engine and allows McReynolds to break down pit crew car strategies. TNT's newest pit reporter Parsons, brother of late TNT analyst and NASCAR legend Benny Parsons, will join fellow reporters Ralph Sheheen, Marty Snider and Matt Yocum.
TNT and NASCAR.COM will be more interactive than ever before on race day, as well as leading up to the network's six exclusive races, including:
• RaceBuddy will feature interaction with the broadcast crew throughout the race for the first time, including regular in-race updates and reports from Czarniak.
• Each race day, one of Turner's marquee announcers will conduct a live video chat with fans via NASCAR.COM, beginning with Petty on June 6 in Pocono.
• Turner Sports will also unveil its "TNT Million Dollar Fan Challenge," a weekly event on NASCAR.COM that allows fans the opportunity to win up to $1 million each week of TNT's coverage by selecting in precise order the drivers they think will be the top-10 finishers in each race, with the opportunity to adjust their line-up through 25 percent of the race.
• During the week, fans will be able to once again follow Petty's adventures getting from track to track with the return of The Ponytail Express. In addition, TNT announcers will make weekly contributions, including Garage Expert with McReynolds (Tuesdays), Live chats with Snider (Tuesdays), Beyond Pit Road with Yocum (Thursdays) and Lindsay's List with Czarniak (Fridays).
Airing during the network's pre-race show, TNT's popular Pride of NASCAR series will return with six racing legends. This year's launches in Pocono with Sheheen interviewing motorsports legend Mario Andretti from nearby Nazareth, Pa. In addition, other legends profiled will include Davey Allison (Michigan), Rufus Parnell "Parnelli" Jones (Sonoma) and Dale Inman (Loudon). Also returning this season will be Dallenbach's popular Wally's World, a virtual look at the featured tracks for TNT's Summer Series.
The green flag will drop on TNT's coverage beginning June 6 in Pocono, followed by consecutive weeks of exclusive Cup Series coverage with races in Michigan (June 13), Sonoma (June 20), Loudon (June 27), and primetime Saturday night races in Daytona (July 3) and Chicago (July 10). This summer marks Turner's 27th consecutive year of televising Cup Series events.
TNT RaceBuddy, the award-winning multiplatform experience, will return to ride shotgun with viewers to provide a more immersive experience and live companion coverage on NASCAR.COM with an expanded application. In addition to the unprecedented interaction with broadcast crew, popular features returning include online dedicated pit reporter Jim Noble, social media interaction and unique views of the race. The entire complement includes:
• Four camera angles and mosaic view: Pit Road Plus, an enhanced produced feed with pit reporter Noble dedicated to providing ongoing reports; Battle Cam, a camera that will stream the most intense head-to-head competition between drivers; In-Car Driver Cam with featured drivers changing periodically during the race; Track Cam, video streaming from various camera angles of the race track. The Mosaic View allows fans to view all four streams at once.
• New DVR Function: Fans will not miss a second of race action with the DVR ability to rewind to any part missed.
• Pit Buddy: Real-time Twitter updates from pit reporters direct from pit road.
• Enhanced custom live leaderboard: Full-featured leaderboard showing all the vital lap speeds, positions and more with the new ability for fans to select their favorite drivers that they want to follow on the leaderboard.
• Connect and chat: Using MySpace, Facebook and Twitter in a seamlessly integrated experience, allowing fans to stay connected with friends as well as other fans, while watching the race.
• Twitterverse: Fans can see the continual flow of Twitter activity for each driver throughout the race using this visual application. Fans can switch between the different views: Teams, Mood and Driver to see the entire scope of activity.
• Bigger application: RaceBuddy will feature a 28 percent larger page to maximize the viewing action for fans, an industry first.
TNT's marquee primetime race in Daytona -- the Coke Zero 400 -- will feature the return of Wide Open Coverage in which the network provides continuous race coverage free of national commercial breaks and features 22 percent more unobstructed race action than that of a standard telecast by using a letterbox widescreen format. In place of the national ads, the telecast features a variety of animated sponsor messages, unique branded content and distinct on-screen graphic elements.
