It's never easy when an engagement ends. The hardest part? Saying goodbye to bling, especially when it's a custom designed 2.72 carat Neil Lane diamond ring. But that's what Vienna Girardi had to do with the sparkler Dallas pilot and recent Dancing With the Stars contestant Jake Pavelka placed on her finger on the March 1 Bachelor finale. Surprised by news of the split was jeweler Lane himself, who tells PEOPLE, "I always hope that people will work and have a Cinderella ending. The ring was made with love and affection for Vienna, but I'm not in control of what happens. It's too bad." A source tells PEOPLE Girardi handed over the ring to Pavelka on Tuesday. The former couple reunited on Wednesday to tape a closure interview with Bachelor/Bachelorette host Chris Harrison, which will air on July 5 on ABC. Pavelka gave the ring back to the Bachelor production company, a Bachelor spokesperson confirms. So what becomes of Girardi's gem–not to mention the rings from previous failed Bachelor/Bachelorette unions–from here? A show rep declines to comment. "I have no idea what will ultimately happen to the ring, but as far as I know it goes back to Warner Bros.," Lane tells PEOPLE.
