UPDATE 1:20 p.m. ET: Aikman says he was joking around with the TMZ cameraman.
"Heavens, no," he tells the Dallas Morning News in response to a question about whether he'd be taking part in the show.
The original post is below.
Troy Aikman says he's joining his fellow ex-Dallas Cowboys Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin on "Dancing With the Stars."
Aikman, the former Cowboys quarterback and current FOX NFL analyst, matter-of-factly tells TMZ that he'll be part of the ABC show "next year." Whether that means in the fall cycle or the spring of 2011 is unclear (also unclear: whether he was just messing with the cameraman).
A "DWTS" rep tells Zap2it, "We don't comment on casting rumors."
If Aikman does hit the "Dancing" floor, he would be the eighth current or former NFL player to take part in the show. His former teammates -- he, Smith and Irvin were known as the Triplets during their Cowboys days -- fared pretty well on the show; Smith won the third edition of "DWTS," and Irvin lasted eight weeks on the show last fall.
His former coach may also be on a reality show this fall: Jimmy Johnson is reportedly part of the "Survivor: Nicaragua" cast.
"Dancing With the Stars" begins its 11th cycle on Monday, Sept. 20; the full cast will be announced in late August.
