Welcome to Project Pilots, where Zap2it will give you the skinny on the new shows headed your way this fall. We'll be rolling these posts out throughout July and August to help you prepare for a busy fall season that will bring more than 20 new series to your screen.
First up is CBS' "Hawaii Five-0," the third Eye series that has starred Alex O'Loughlin in the past four seasons. The network is hoping this one fares better than "Moonlight" and "Three Rivers" did.

OK? OK. Here's the lowdown on "Five-0."
What it is: A remake of the long-running (1968-80) cop show starring O'Loughlin as Steve McGarrett, the head of a special police unit that reports directly to the state's governor. It's scheduled for 10 p.m. ET Mondays.
Who's making it: The hot writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ("Fringe," "Star Trek," "Transformers") penned the pilot and are executive producing with "CSI: NY" and "24" veteran Peter Lenkov. Len Wiseman ("Live Free or Die Hard") directed the pilot
What to look for: The focus in the pilot -- and presumably from week to week in the series -- will be on tracking and catching the bad guys, but Kurtzman, Orci and Lenkov seem to be leaving room for character-based stories as well. The pre-credits sequence fills in McGarrett's back story, and we get a fair amount of information about Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan) as well. The other regulars are "Lost's" Daniel Dae Kim -- who deserves praise for figuring out a way to keep working and living in Hawaii -- as Chin Ho Kelly and Grace Park ("Battlestar Galactica") as Kono Kalakaua, Chin Ho's cousin and a fresh recruit out of the police academy. And yes, the remake keeps the iconic theme song.
What pops: "Action-packed" is a pretty good way to describe the pilot -- there's a lot of it, and it's well-done. O'Loughlin and Caan seem to have a pretty good (if prickly) chemistry.
What doesn't: We wonder if a pilot that looks as expensive as this one can sustain that week to week. Kim doesn't get a ton to do early on; we hope that changes.
