LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Walt Disney Co. executives wondering if a southern California jury will ruin their Fourth of July weekend can throw some Mickey Mouse-shaped burgers on the BBQ.
Jurors deliberating in the $270 million federal court trial between Disney and British producer Celador over profits from "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" went home for the day on Thursday. And thanks to a pre-planned vacation scheduled by one of the jurors, they won't return until Wednesday.
The jury has been poring over the 17 pages of jury instructions since earlier this week, when closing arguments in the three-week trial ended.
Judge Virginia Phillips ordered lawyers for Disney and Celador to stay within 10 minutes of the courthouse, requiring at least one member of each team to shack up in Riverside, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Now these lawyers can also enjoy some fireworks of a non-courtroom nature.
