Every Modern Family begins with Mad Men and The Good Wife, but for a lifetime of Glee you have to pray your kids avoid Breaking Bad.
In other words, it's Emmy time.
Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the 62nd annual primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday on NBC and CTV. Here's a quick glance at the 10 marquee categories:
COMEDY SERIES: Curb Your Enthusiasm; Glee; Modern Family; Nurse Jackie; The Office; 30 Rock.
Odd that The Big Bang Theory wasn't nominated, huh? But Modern Family is the deserving favourite, with Glee a possibility.
COMEDY LEAD ACTOR: Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory; Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm; Matthew Morrison, Glee; Tony Shalhoub, Monk; Steve Carell, The Office; Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock.
This should be a fairly straight-forward victory for Parsons, although Emmy voters do tend to love vets such as Shalhoub, Carell and Baldwin.
COMEDY LEAD ACTRESS: Lea Michele, Glee; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures Of Old Christine; Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie; Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation; Tina Fey, 30 Rock; Toni Collette, The United States of Tara.
Collette won last year, so we're betting on Falco. But if it were up to us, it would be Poehler.
COMEDY SUPPORTING ACTOR: Chris Colfer, Glee; Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother; Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family; Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family; Ty Burrell, Modern Family; Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men.
This should go to Burrell (first choice) or Stonestreet (second choice). But here's praying the three Modern Family dudes don't split the vote.
COMEDY SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Jane Lynch, Glee; Julie Bowen, Modern Family; Sofia Vergara, Modern Family; Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live; Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock; Holland Taylor, Two and a Half Men.
Lynch. The shortest putt of the night.
DRAMA SERIES: Breaking Bad; Dexter; The Good Wife; Lost; Mad Men; True Blood. If Breaking Bad or Dexter wins, we'll be happy. So why do we have a weird feeling it could be The Good Wife, or even Lost? DRAMA LEAD ACTOR: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad; Michael C. Hall, Dexter; Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights; Hugh Laurie, House; Matthew Fox, Lost; Jon Hamm, Mad Men.
Cranston has won the past two years, so we're going with Hall or Hamm.
DRAMA LEAD ACTRESS: Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer; Glenn Close, Damages; Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights; Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife; Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; January Jones, Mad Men.
Margulies. Second shortest putt of the night.
DRAMA SUPPORTING ACTOR: Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad; Martin Short, Damages; Terry O'Quinn, Lost; Michael Emerson, Lost; John Slattery, Mad Men; Andre Braugher, Men of a Certain Age.
If it isn't Paul, we're going to start throwing things around the living room. Although we could live with Slattery as well.
DRAMA SUPPORTING ACTRESS; Sharon Gless, Burn Notice; Rose Byrne, Damages; Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife; Christine Baranski, The Good Wife; Christina Hendricks, Mad Men; Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men.
One of the toughest categories to call. We'll select Moss, although we may be factoring in her performance in the current season, which surely will lead to a lead-actress nomination next year.
