Acclaimed director George Hickelooper has passed away. He was 47.
Best known for his Emmy-winning work on the 1992 Apocalypse Now documentary, Heart of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse, Hickenlooper's career spanned two decades, including turns as writer, producer and even brief stints as an actor.
Los Angeles-based Hickenlooper was found dead Saturday morning in Denver, where he was currently visiting for the premiere of Casino Jack, his latest film starring Kevin Spacey.
George's cousin John Hickenlooper, Denver mayor and star of the director's 2008 Democratic National Convention documentary Hick Town, said in a statement Sunday that his relative appears to have died of natural causes.
Rounding out the filmmaker's repertoire is Factory Girl, starring Sienna Miller, Persons Unknown with a young Naomi Watts and music documentary Mayor of the Sunset Strip.
