ABC Family picked up three new series Monday, including a comedy starring longtime Disney star Raven-Symoné.
The Great State of Georgia is a half-hour comedy centered on an aspiring actress with a big personality named Georgia (Symoné), trying to make headway in New York with her science geek best friend. Roswell's Majandra Delfino will also star. The show is executive-produced by Kirk J. Rudell (Will & Grace) and best-selling author Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed, In Her Shoes).
The drama Switched at Birth follows two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched at birth in the hospital. One girl, Bay (Gilmore Girls' Vanessa Marano), was raised by a wealthy family with two parents and a brother. Daphne (Katie Leclerc), who lost her hearing early in life, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood. The two families struggle to become one.
Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), Constance Marie (George Lopez), D.W. Moffett (Friday Night Lights) and High School Musical's Lucas Grabeel also star. Make It or Break It's Paul Stupin and John Ziffren will executive-produce, along with Lizzy Weiss (Cashmere Mafia).
The Nine Lives of Carole King focuses on a girl who begins developing heightened abilities on her birthday and realizes she's being pursued by a mysterious person. Chloe (The Gates' Skyler Samuels) soon discovers that she's part of an ancient race which has been hunted by human assassins, and she may be their only hope for survival.
The cast includes Caroline in the City's Amy Pietz, Grey Damon (True Blood) and newcomer Grace Phipps. The hourlong drama will be executive-produced by Ziffren, Dan Berendsen (Camp Rock 2), Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars) and Gina Girolamo.
"We continue to offer our millennial viewers a rich and diverse mix of authentic, optimistic and heartfelt programming," ABC Family President Michael Riley said. "We're excited about these new series and believe they will be great additions to an already strong slate that, at its core, is filled with engaging, strong, funny and relatable characters."
The three series will debut on the cable station later this year.
