As Camille Grammer weighs her decision on whether or not she would continue on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she's divulging why she signed up for the reality show in the first place.
"Kelsey wanted me to do it," Camille, 47, tells Ellen DeGeneres of her soon-to-be ex-husband Kelsey Grammer on Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I didn't want to do the show. I wasn't ready to expose my life that way."
Grammer says she even felt pressured by her spouse to appear on the reality series. "I was surprised that he wanted me to do it, too. I was like, 'Are you crazy? Why are you making me do this?' " she says. "But he thought it would be good for me to do something that was separate from us being a couple."
Shortly after filming Housewives began, Grammer discovered she and her husband wouldn't be a couple much longer. "I found out [Kelsey] wanted out of the relationship during the shooting," says Grammer. "A mutual friend called me and said, 'I don't like what he's doing to you, and I don't like the timing because you're in the middle of shooting a reality show.' "
Then an alarm went off inside her head: "I called him that night and texted him – no answer from him," she says. "I waited for three hours, and then he called me and said, 'I don't want to be married anymore.' "
Now that she's taking heat for how she's portrayed on the show, Grammer says she's not sure how long her life on-camera will last.
"Right now, as everybody knows, I'm going through a divorce," she says. "If I would do [another season], it would be to try to change my image – to try to change it around and have people see the other side of me that you don't see on TV."
