General Motors' has placed MTV's new series Skins on its "do not buy" list, according to a statement released by the Parents Television Council on Friday.
"PTC thanks General Motors for swiftly responding to PTC members' concerns about Chevy Volt advertisements" PTC President Tim Winter said in a statement. "MTV admitted placing the Chevy commercial on Skins in error. GM also stated that MTV had apologized for its error. Every single advertiser who sponsored the premiere episode of Skins is not only endorsing, but glorifying teen drug and alcohol abuse, not to mention a plethora of baseless sexual content."
Following Skins' Monday premiere, The Parents Television Council swiftly called for a federal investigation into whether the racy teen drama violates child pornography and exploitation laws. A remake of the controversial British series of the same name, Skins premiered to 3.26 million viewers and featured candid depictions of teen sex and drug use.
The PTC is now urging Schick Hydro, H&R Block, L'Oreal, Subway, Foot Locker, Orbit chewing gum and Extra chewing gum to stop advertizing. The organization had also previously called for a boycott of Taco Bell for advertising during the show. The fast food company announced Thursday that it would pull its ads.
"Upon further review, we've decided that the show is not a fit for our brand and have moved our advertising to other MTV programming," Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch said in a statement.
